Hynix to close US plant as prices fall

Hynix Semiconductor, the world’s second-largest memory chip manufacturer, said on Thursday it would close its US fabrication plant in Oregon by the end of September, due to rapid advances in technology and steep price declines.

The South Korean company is the latest chipmaker to scale back its production plans, joining Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor and Nanya Technology Corp, as the industry grapples with a supply glut.
