Sprint Nextel dips after cash call

Shares in Sprint Nextel dropped 11 per cent on Wednesday after the third largest US mobile operator unveiled a $3bn convertible offering and warned that subscriber losses would increase in the current quarter.

The company, which surprised analysts with both the size and the timing of the offering, said it planned to use the proceeds for “general corporate purposes, which may include, among other things, debt reduction”.
