No end in sight for M&A drought

Mergers and acquisitions volumes sank to the lowest level in four years during the first quarter, as upheaval in the lending markets tied private equity investors’ hands and chief executives kept their dealmaking ambitions restrained.

With the US economic malaise spreading globally, and little reprieve in sight for the credit markets, dealmaking activity appears likely to stay muted throughout 2008.
