Croat General goes on trial for war crimes

Ante Gotovina, Croatia’s highest-level war crimes defendant, goes on trial on Tuesday in The Hague for alleged responsibility for murders and persecution of ethnic Serbs in the country’s Krajina region in 1995.

“Operation Storm”, the military campaign he led from August to November 1995, shattered the rebel Serb statelet and brought Croatia’s war for independence to a successful finish.
