Euro lifted by German inflation data

The euro hit a three-week high against the dollar after surging German wholesale prices reinforced the view that the European Central Bank would maintain its hawkish stance on interest rates.

German producer price inflation increased by 1.1 per cent in April, well above expectations, after rising 0.7 per cent in March. This took the annual inflation rate to 5.2 per cent.
