An absentee’s imprint

Do owners imprint themselves on their gardens? In their lifetimes, of course they do. Gardening is an art and its practitioners are all artists in a small way who express themselves by what they place and plant. What happens when they die? I have no belief in a future life but I am sensitive to a sense of place. Sometimes we visit locations that are still marked by the feeling of an absent personality. Their gardener seems to live on. What lies behind this feeling and where does it confront us?
