Fear of terror link to piracy ‘unfounded’

Fears that terrorists and pirates could combine to heighten the threat to international commerce appear so far to be unfounded, according to a report written for the US Air Force.

A number of high-profile maritime terrorist incidents preceded and followed the 2001 al-Qaeda strikes against New York and Washington, encouraging the US to take a number of initiatives to combat the threat.
