Asian chipmakers on Friday reported poor earnings in their troubled semiconductor businesses as chip prices remain near record lows, but are expected to stage a modest recovery in the second half of the year.
Samsung Electronics, the world’s biggest memory chipmaker, suffered a 64 per cent drop in quarterly profit from its semiconductor division, but was saved by stellar performances in its display and handset businesses, and overall beat forecasts with a 37 per cent rise in quarterly profits.
