Alarm over Revenue’s increased powers

Sweeping new powers for tax inspectors could be used in a draconian way against businesses, according to MPs who have called for a much wider debate about the finance bill’s impact on human rights.

Alarm over the possibility that inspectors could mount “fishing expeditions” armed with their new rights to inspect business premises and records prompted a last-ditch attempt to amend the finance bill this month.
