Allianz could make a big purchase in the UK general insurance market and is gearing up for a possible assault on UK life assurance by importing US-style retirement savings products to Britain.

Clement Booth, a member of the Allianz management board, said the German insurer was keen to increase its presence in the UK commercial insurance market and in retail insurance.
