Scots claim oil figures prove subsidy

Nationalists have hailed official Scottish government figures that they claimed proved Scotland was subsidising the rest of the UK through the proceeds of North Sea oil.

The figures show that, if Scots received the bulk of North Sea oil and gas revenues – which currently flow entirely to the UK government – Scotland would have enjoyed current budget surpluses in recent years.
