Renovo symptomatic of biotech troubles

When shares in Renovo, the poster child of UK biotechnology success, collapsed last week after the failure of a drug trial in one application it was another body blow to an increasingly ailing sector.

The brutal market reaction, which saw the stock halve in value, was an unwelcome reminder that biotechnology remains one of the riskiest and most volatile sectors and it brought into sharp focus the acute problems the industry is now facing.
