How will this affect the market?
The Bank has launched a new lending facility through which banks and building societies can exchange old mortgage-backed securities for less risky Treasury bills. The extra liquidity should ease the stalemate in the money markets, stimulate new lending and ultimately bring down the cost of borrowing for banks and building societies.
