Setback for drive against binge drinking

Gordon Brown's drive against binge drinking was dealt a blow yesterday after the main trade body for beer and pub companies suspended its drinks promotion standards because they might breach competition law.

The British Beer and Pub Association has told the government it has decided to withdraw its guidance on responsible "happy hours" over fears that administering the rules could amount to collusion.
