Global demand for milk powder to hit shoppers

Milk, cheese and butter prices are likely to rise as soaring global demand for milk powder increases manufacturers’ costs, the dairy industry warned on Monday.

Record high prices for milk powder on global commodity markets has created an unusual situation in the UK: dairy farmers can make more money by turning milk into powder than they can selling it to liquid milk processors or cheese manufacturers.
