Domestic & General Group on Friday agreed a takeover by Advent International, the private equity firm, in a deal that values the provider of extended warranty and central heating cover at £524m.

The deal is the first public-to-private transaction announced in the UK since turmoil in the credit markets in effect shut down leveraged buy-outs.
