SK and Providence propose $5bn stake in Sprint

SK Telecom of South Korea teamed up with Providence Equity Partners, the US private equity group, this month, to propose a $5bn investment in Sprint Nextel, the wireless carrier, and the return of former chairman Tim Donahue, it emerged yesterday.

The offer was made in a letter to Sprint's board on November 10 that was obtained by the Financial Times.
