US starts antitrust inquiry into Intel practices

New York's attorney-general yesterday launched an antitrust investigation into the activities of Intel, the world's biggest chipmaker, following similar inquiries in the European Union, Japan and South Korea.

The announcement by attorney-general Andrew Cuomo that he had served a wide-ranging subpoena on Intel marked the first investigation by US authorities of Intel's tactics in competing with its main rival Advanced Micro Devices.
