Underage customers face new scrutiny

Children could be stopped from buying cigarettes and alcohol by facial recognition technology similar to that the police use to identify criminals.

The system has been tested for several months in a Budgens supermarket in London. It is thought to be the first time the bio-metric technology has been used by a UK retailer to identify underage customers.
