The metallic colours splashed all over last spring’s fashion catwalks have, for better of for worse, now made their way into the home. Following a prolonged stint in the kitchen, with stainless steel worktops and shiny floors dominating showrooms, metal tones are now spreading out into the living room in this year’s Milan Design Week.
Israeli designer Arik Ben Simhon is leading this new wave. Several of the armchairs and sofas from his new collection are upholstered in satin fabrics in metal and steel colours, and there are others in brown and black with metallic finishes. According to Simhon, the chairs aim to give the impression of being in a futuristic cartoon: he describes them as “Blade Runner meets Mickey Mouse”.
