Scrap fuel duty device, says business

Business on Wednesday called for the fuel duty escalator to be scrapped after the government postponed for a further six months the 2p a litre rise that had been due to take effect in October.

Gordon Brown was forced to reject Conservative suggestions the announcement’s timing had been designed for maximum political advantage ahead of next week’s Glasgow East by-election.
