Monster expands its social web

Monster Worldwide, the world’s biggest online jobs site, on Saturday took a further step into social networking by paying $61m for Affinity Labs, a maker of social web sites catering to policemen, healthcare workers and other niche audiences.

The $61m price tag for Affinity, which is still in startup mode, underlined the growing buzz around web sites that allow users to find and interact with online “friends.”
