Legal & General offsets gloom

Companies ridding themselves of the risk of running corporate pension schemes helped Legal & General offset deteriorating conditions in many of its markets, amid a worsening outlook for British life assurers.

L&G lifted sales in the “bulk annuity” market, where companies pay insurers a premium for taking on their pension commitments, from £17m to £72m in the first quarter on an annual premium equivalent basis.
