More than 300 businesses in the UK have so far registered to claim fuel surcharge refunds, which in some cases could total hundreds of thousands of pounds, following a $200m (£100m) legal settlement over price-fixing with British Airways and Virgin Atlantic last week.

About 40,000 individual travellers have also provided contact details for their claims, which could amount to as much as hundreds of pounds each.
