Firms spend up to 10% of turnover on energy bills

More than a fifth of small businesses are spending more than 10 per cent of their annual turnover on energy bills following steep rises in fuel costs, according to a study.

The results suggest that fuel poverty, where more than a 10th of income is spent on energy bills, is even higher in business than among the population at large. One in six households are in fuel poverty, according to Energywatch, the consumer group.
