Reduced ITV public service remit sought

ITV will need to have “much more limited” public service obligations in the future, the broadcasting regulator said on Thursday.

Lord Currie, chairman of Ofcom, said harsher commercial conditions were already forcing ITV and Channel 4 to narrow the scope of innovative dramas and documentaries. In future the terms of ITV’s public-service broadcasting (PSB) licence would need to be less demanding, more precise and more transparent.
