Flaws mar handover from US custody

Conditions at Policharki prison’s Block D, where prisoners transferred from US custody in Guantánamo Bay and at Bagram Air Force Base are housed, are some of the very best in Afghanistan. But human rights investigators have expressed grave concerns about the way the men’s legal cases are being dealt with.

Files on the men collated by the US military are given to Afghan authorities when the prisoners transfer to Afghan custody. These are reviewed by a special court inside the prison.
