Host countries work to shake off fusty image

Austria’s grand coalition is suffering one of its periodic crises but pundits are united in the view that the government will hold for at least the next three weeks until the Euro 2008 football championship is over.

Alfred Gusenbauer, the soccer-mad Social Democratic chancellor, and Wilhelm Molterer, his Christian Democratic deputy, will be friendship incarnate at the final in Vienna’s Ernst Happel stadium on June 29.
