Baltic unrest reaches Lithuania

Police fired teargas and rubber bullets to keep demonstrators away from the Lithuanian parliament yesterday as thousands rallied in Vilnius against austerity policies.

The clashes, which follow riots in neighbouring Latvia on Tuesday, show how anger at the collapse of the Baltic economic boom threatens political stability.
