EU chooses head of new ‘reflection group’

Felipe González, the former Spanish socialist prime minister, was named on Friday as the chairman of an independent group of experts who will review the European Union’s long-term future.

Mr González, 65, was chosen at a summit of EU leaders in Brussels to lead the so-called ”reflection group”, which was set up in response to a proposal last August from Nicolas Sarkozy, the French president.
