Leaders’ threat on Olympics start ceremony

A diplomatic stand-off between China and Europe over Beijing’s handling of unrest in Tibet intensified on Tuesday, with European leaders urging China to open talks with the Dalai Lama and threatening to stay away from the Olympic Games’ opening ceremony in August.

The German and French governments renewed calls for China to enter a dialogue with Tibet’s spiritual leader over the crisis in the region.
