Pakistan's security forces were placed on red alert yesterday after at least 22 people, mostly policemen, were killed and more than 70 wounded in a suicide bomb attack outside the High Court in Lahore.

The attack was the worst in the history of Lahore, Pakistan's second-largest city and a centre of activity for Pakistani politicians that has so far avoided large-scale attacks.
