Thailand’s military-installed government has warned the public to brace itself for more bomb attacks, heightening the jitters of a population already on edge after mysterious New Year’s eve bomb explosions that killed three people and injured more than 40 others in Bangkok.

The warning came as the capital was swept by rumours of an imminent counter-coup d’état after the bloodless military coup that ousted Thaksin Shinawatra, the elected prime minister, from power in September. A spokesman for both the military and the administration on Thursday night denied any imminent threat of a fresh coup or any unusual troop movements.
