Odinga puts off Kenya protests

Raila Odinga, Kenya's opposition leader, has postponed street protests planned for today that risked fresh violence after the suspension of talks to end the country's crisis.

Kofi Annan, the mediator between Mr Odinga and President Mwai Kibaki, halted negotiations on Tuesday. More than 1,000 people have been killed in clashes with police and inter-tribal fighting since December's disputed poll.
