The Short View: Inflation expectations

Nobody knows what to expect from inflation. This week, the minutes of the latest Bank of England meeting revealed that committee members had split three ways over interest rates, with votes for cutting, raising and holding. This is extremely unusual but reflects a broader confusion that is churning the markets.

Inflation in the emerging world is real. Most of the large emerging markets are in the midst of monetary tightening.
