Outlook: Confidence sags on growth outlook

US interest rates are likely to be held at 2 per cent on Wednesday, but this week’s data releases threaten to widen divisions among US policymakers and strain further the credibility of the Federal Reserve.

The risk of deep US recession has receded, but the outlook for growth remains fragile, while inflationary pressures have continued to build, complicating the outlook for monetary policy.
