UK to explore role of speculation in oil price

Concern over the possible role of speculators in driving record crude oil prices -yesterday spilled over into Britain, where a parliamentary committee said it would hold its first hearing into regulation of oil markets.

The development came as Gordon Brown, British prime minister, dismissed suggestions that speculators were a problem, echoing the view of economists and -regulators that supply and demand imbalances were largely to blame.
