Rome approves emergency Alitalia loan

Italy’s centre-left government on Tuesday night approved a €300m emergency loan to keep Alitalia from bankruptcy, in spite of a warning from Brussels that further state aid for the lossmaking flag carrier could lead to court action.

Alitalia’s crisis deepened on Monday when Air France-KLM announced it had withdrawn a binding but conditional takeover offer it made on March 14.
