Sir, Your report, “Legal firms pressed to reform as profits mount up” (February 25) rightly highlights the pressure on legal fees in the current economic climate. Changes in billing methods are nothing new. When I wrote Getting Value from Professional Advisers in 1993, just before I set up my own commercial law firm, fixed fees, success fees, retainers and the like were common even then.
