Biometric trap for underage shoppers

Children could be stopped from buying cigarettes and alcohol using face-recognition technology similar to that used by police to identify criminals.

The system has been tested for some months in an unspecified Budgens shop in London. It is thought to be the first time the biometric technology has been used by a British retailer to identify underage customers.
