General Electric on Friday launched a radical restructuring of its sprawling business, in the latest attempt by Jeffrey Immelt, chief executive, to revive its flagging share price and regain the trust of disgruntled investors.

The move placed the infrastructure unit at the core of GE and further shifts the company’s centre of gravity away from its manufacturing roots.
