Gold shines as commodities strengthen

Gold advanced towards the $1,000 per troy ounce level while oil hit a record above $103 per barrel and agricultural commodities also achieved new price peaks on Monday.

Commodity prices, measured by the Reuters/Jefferies CRB spot index, have jumped 15.1 per cent since January 1, the strongest start to any year since the index was created in 1956.
