Banks and miners lift European stocks

European shares advanced for a second consecutive day, underpinned by bid activity in the mining sector and strong results from BNP Paribas that bolstered financials.

The FTSE Eurofirst 300 rose 0.9 per cent to 1,192.99, bringing its gains for the past two days to 3.5 per cent.
