Length and detail: US accounting rules, guidance and official interpretations total some 25,000 pages. IFRS, which has tried to rely on principles and has avoided adding much interpretation, is more like 2,500 pages.

Less guidance: FASB has guidance for specific industries, while IFRS has concentrated on principles with very few exceptions. US companies are going to have to figure out how they will apply to them.
