Punch Taverns facing tougher conditions

Punch Taverns on Thursday reported underlying interim profits in line with expectations but said pressures on its consumers were unlikely to ease for the remainder of the financial year.

The pubs group, which earlier this month terminated talks with rival Mitchells & Butlers, said second-quarter trade had been “more subdued” and that trading into the third quarter had continued “broadly in line” with the second quarter.
