ITV is seeking to cut the cost of its public service broadcasting commitments radically by next year and may be offered a helping hand by the BBC, documents submitted to a government watchdog this week will say.
The BBC – the state broadcaster which is determined to avoid having its £3.2bn ($6.3bn) annual licence fee trimmed to subsidise rivals – will on Monday propose sharing technological advances and local or regional newsgathering resources to help commercial companies, according to a person who has read the BBC document.
