From Mr Tony DiSanzo.
Sir, Newt Gingrich asserts that opponents of the US government shutdown are ignoring American and British history (Comment, October 5.) Yet he himself is ignoring recent history. The Affordable Care Act was passed by the House, passed by the Senate, signed by the president, and upheld by the Supreme Court. If Mr Gingrich does not think this gives the law legitimacy then he simply may not believe in the American system of government as prescribed in the Constitution.
