BA reacts to profits in freefall

British Airways is being forced to take drastic action to avoid a full-year loss after reporting on Friday that first-quarter pre-tax profits fell 88 per cent.

The UK flag carrier is to cut flights during the winter, raise air fares, reduce capital spending and cut jobs by natural attrition to try to cope with fuel costs.
