Belgium set for record amid talks impasse

Since a general election nearly five months ago, Belgium has been gripped by political impasse. Now, it is poised to break a thankless record: its longest-ever talks to form a government.

Unless negotiators confound expectations and strike a deal beforehand, the linguistically divided nation will on Tuesday set a mark of 149 consecutive days without a new coalition.
