Kazakh mining moves raise fresh concerns on governance

Until three years ago, few in London would have noticed or cared that one Kazakh mining company had increased its stake in a rival and brought the country’s government in as a shareholder.

But now that Kazakhmys and Eurasian Natural Resources Corp (ENRC) are both full members of the FTSE 100 index, every move they make has the potential to affect UK pension funds and retail investors.
